Lots of the dancers I have been speaking to tell me how mainstream poledancing is becoming so I have interviewed a pro to find out more

How popular is poledancing for exercise now?

Pole dancing is extremley popular for Fitness, as so many women are finding it such a fun and enjoyable way to get fit and tone up! The hardest part of a fitness regime is finding something you enjoy, so Pole Fitness classes are booming!

Q)What reasons do you think this is for.

As I say, the FUN factor, and that it gives great results! People have no idea how much strength you need to do the pole tricks. Also, a lot of the women come along to not only get fit but to boost self esteem and confidence about themselves. If they can do something that makes them feel sexy without being watched and judged and being in a comfortable surrounding it makes them feel great, and all the girls in classes support and encourage each other, its also a great way to make new friends!

Q)Is there much or even any crossover between professional poledancer and fitness poledancer

I personally come from a fitness background and have never worked in a club, but I know a lot of club dancers are now branching out into teaching lessons for the fitness benefits.

Q)Is there any stigma attached

Yes! Although it is mainly accepted now as a fitness class there are still many people who raise their eyebrows and look down upon you for it. To be honest, I don't care what other people think about it, if they are that naive then let them get on with it!

Q) How good can an average girl get on the pole

People progress at different rates, but I have some girls who are real natural dancers and really really strong! They pick things up almost instantly. Others have to work a bit harder, but the sense of acheivment is almost greater when they learn something!

Q) do many people have poles at home

Several of my students have poles at home..its very common nowdays!

Q) any funny stories

My 9 year old daughter asked her teacher if she could demonstate some Pole dancing on the PE apparatus the other day! The teacher said it wasn't really appropraite - until my daughter threw herself upside down..then she told her she could show it to the class! She tells everyone that her Mummy is a pole dancer..but has no idea of the different ideas it gives people...she tells everyone how great it is for your fitness!!!

Then the other day I had the Sky TV man round to fit a new box..i debated taking the pole down from the front room but didn't bother! He didn't say anything until just before he left, when he asked if it was a dance pole and where could he get one as his wife has wanted to do it for ages!! He ended up taking my website details!
